Pol Opuesto Wines, Mala Hierba, 2017

If I were told I could only make wine in Argentina from one variety, I would choose Bonarda.
Bonarda has fascinated Pol more than any other Argentinean varietal since the first year he
arrived in Argentina. However, it took him five years before he could find the right vineyard.
Unfortunately, the grape is still under-appreciated and under-paid, and so there are not many wineries or grape farmers planting the variety in the most interesting terroirs and climates.
The grape farmers who do appreciate it are a rare breed, and the name Mala Hierba is a sort of hommage to them. Additionally, in this vineyard the grower does not remove the ‘mala hierba’ and allows the natural wild plants to grow up and compete with the vine, creating a more natural environment and soil microbiome.
